Few. I can finally post this. I have been swimming it it for the past two weeks. A lot has happened: I moved into a new office; did a lot of work; killed a snake; did a lot of work; celebrated mothers day; did a lot of work.

The latest commercial has been in limbo for a bit and I couldn’t post it. The client had to decide if they were cool with it, a few people went on vacation and it got a shelved a bit. But here it is.

I also had a few moments to throw together a little behind the scenes of the commercial i did a few weeks ago. Enjoy:

OK. I couldn’t contain myself.

I shared on Twitter the other night that “In my brain right now: planing a Samsung Galaxy S TV spot that will give a huge nod to the old-school Star Trek intro. A.D.D+GEEK=AWESOME”

This is what I have been working on today, and it is looking cool. I am so excited to start filming tomorrow. I have been doing some behind the scenes footage along the way too. The goal is to have it finished by Friday. Let’s keep our tribbles crossed.

let’s fix it in photoshop

The title is a play words that almost every photographer/designer/whatever finds themselves saying at least once… a week. In this case, ad agency Droga5 took the phrase to heart. They decided to create an entire commercial straight in Photoshop. Now, I have used Photoshop in a lot of my commercials. I even used to to color each individual frame of a shot. But never anything like this. Amazing job guys. Check out the video below or read more on their site for more photos and info.

low budget slow-motion explosions

You might recognize this shot from my portfolio section if you have been to the site recently. Allow me to move back a few weeks to explain my brain. One of my clients through Porcaro Communications asked us to produce a quick turnaround low-budget commercial for the release of the Motorola Xoom on their network. Normally when a client needs something pretty quick and cheep, we usually go with canned footage, or simple CGI to get the message across. I didn’t want to do that this time though. After watching The Bourne Identity for the umteenth a few weeks previously, I knew I wanted to try to do an action sequence for a commercial. Here, of course, was the challenge that I always seem to place upon myself, how to accomplish what I see in my mind quickly, under budget, and still look good. I was able to accomplish all three. Here’s how I did it:

Ahhhhhhhh. The long vacation from the blog and social media is now over. You might have noticed that the blog looks a little bit different. In fact, my whole site is different. After much contemplation, I’ve decided to lose the photo-centric website. I’m not a commercial photographer any more. Well, not in the normal sense. I pretty much spend most of my time now directing and producing television commercials. And then when I am done with my day job, I host a few Internet shows. Yes, I still shoot pictures every now and then, but not nearly as much as I used to. I figured it was time for my site to reflect that.

I also haven’t been very serious about blogging for a while now, nor other forms social media for that matter. I have been very busy with other projects, most of which I haven’t talked about at all on the blog. This has been a good point in my life to look back and reflect on what direction I am going professionally. I still work for Porcaro Creative here in Austin, and work couldn’t be busier. That, of course, is a good thing when it comes to supporting a family. But it has also ment that I have become a little more reclusive than I would like to be. I suppose it has something to do with being stuck in a home office for two and a half years. But that’s all about to change.

Six months ago, a friend and I decided to start looking for office space to share. After a few months, he decided to go in a different direction, so that left me still looking for a place big enough to house all my creative equipment, but cheap enough for one person to afford. There was a lot off office space out there that was both spacious and affordable, however all of them required at least a 20 minute commute. After working from home and having a commute of, well, nothing, that wouldn’t fly. I needed something closer. The only problem was, the spaces close by were either too small or crazy expensive.

After all the days of searching,however, I found a place. It’s just barely big enough. One foot smaller in either dimension and it wouldn’t work. Despite the smaller size, I am really happy with the move. This will give me more incentive to grow the business down here and make it easier to branch out. I move into the space May 1st. So change is happening. New office. New site. And I have a few new ideas that might mix things up a bit. I don’t want to get too into it yet, as I am still working out the kinks. Stay tuned…
