Anchorage to Austin: Day 4 – Shelby, Montana to Denver, Colorado
OK, so I am really flipping tired right now and I am not going to write a lot. But today seemed really, really, long. I think its because we passed through such exciting states like Montana and Wyoming. Actually parts of Montana and Wyoming were very lovely. The rest, I’m holding out judgment for now.

ps. There was this really cool picture that the camera captured but I couldn’t find it. The thing shoots more than 1200 pictures a day. You try and go through that after driving for 14 hours.

Anchorage to Austin: Day 3 – Dawson Creek to Shelby, Montana
I never thought I would be so happy to be stuck in traffic. But it meant that we were off the blooming ALCAN. We actually shot for the moon and made it to the stars a little today. We had originally planned to be in Calgary, but made it to Montana instead. Although I wouldn’t ever really refer to Shelby, Montana as the stars. The last picture is at the Canadian/USA border. The funny thing is my camera stopped taking pictures after that and didn’t capture anything the next 40 minutes.
Coincidence? I think not, Scully.

Anchorage to Austin: Day 2 – Whitehorse to Dawson Creek
This is what we saw for most of the trip down. I’m sure once I actually watch the time lapse footage it will be less, but It sure felt like it. Endless turns and constant flurries of snow and trucks passing by in the other lane, kicking up the snow drifts on the side of the road making in darn near impossible to see anything. Thank goodness my wife is flying down. She would be in constant states of gasping panics.

Anchorage to Austin: Day 1 – Anchorage to Whitehorse
I really had plans to post this whole trip in one big shabang, but sitting here in this dingy hotel in Whitehorse, not able to fall asleep for our 3 am departure, I decided to make an exception. What you are seeing above are photos from a time lapse series I am working on for the trip. I have me camera set up on the dashboard hooked up to a laptop taking a picture every 30 seconds. At first it was annoying having the shutter click every 30 seconds, reminding me just how long it takes driving down an icy highway in pitch black (most of the time), but I got used to it.
The weather was -40 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the way down and the roads were non existent at times. Despite the harsh conditions, somehow we managed to get really good gas mileage out of the minivan.
